Welcome to my website. I'm a freelance writer, editor, podcaster, and broadcaster who specialises in TV, film, gaming, and music.
I'm Jack J. Shepherd and I'm a freelance culture journalist who has written for outlets including Total Film, IGN, SFX, Yahoo, Den of Geek, and more. Previously, I was the online editor for Total Film and SFX magazines, the entertainment editor at GamesRadar+, and a culture reporter and video-game editor for The Independent. I've interviewed some of the world's biggest stars, reviewed blockbusters and ongoing TV series, broken exclusive news stories, and much more. I also co-host "The Lost Boys" podcast.
Writing.
I have written magazine cover features, profiled some of the world's biggest stars, broken exclusive news stories, recapped and reviewed weekly shows, led coverage from film festivals and comic conventions, and much more. Check out my writing portfolio page for some highlights.
Broadcast.
I regularly feature on two of Total Film's podcasts – "Inside Total Film" and "The Last Picture Show" – and have reviewed films for radio, appearing on Gaby Roslin's BBC London show. I have created two podcasts with The Independent's Jacob Stolworthy, "The Lost Boys" and "Watching Watchmen". Our Lost podcast is featured in The Guardian's list of best retro podcasts. Editing.
I previously edited the online sections of Total Film and SFX magazines, hosted on GamesRadar+. Under my leadership, the section expanded from just myself and one freelance reporter to seven full-time members of staff. We published agenda-setting news coverage and internet-breaking features, and I helped my writers develop their voices and seize their potential.
